New updates have appeared since the attack on Sun’s website on the 19 July that their personal information may have been stolen by the hackers. Sun attracts thousands of people each month who enter various competitions and leave their personal information on the site. The users who entered any competitions in the past are now being contacted by the newspaper.
A few days back we saw some famous hackers like LulzSec claiming a number of attacks to media websites and protesting against Rupert Murdoch. They even placed a redirected page for people visiting the Sun newspaper that announced Rupert Murdoch’s death.
The newspaper reported that “We take customer data extremely seriously and are working with the relevant authorities to resolve this matter. We are directly contacting any customer affected by this.”
The information stolen by the hackers may contain names, addresses, dates of birth, email addresses and phone numbers.
The newspaper has reported that the hacking incident has been reported to the police and they are doing their best to contact the people who were affected.
