Intel’s CULV Explained- Consumer Ultra-low Voltage Processors

With this new CULV technology in place Intel experts are claiming bigger screens and longer battery life. This new processor has out-geeked many of us trying to understand the terminology. The series of CULV processors is a bunch of confusing Solo, Pentium and Core 2 Duo Processors.

The processor model names start with a ‘SU’ string and then the numeric tags make it all confusing, however the most important thing to remember is the secondary string attached such as the Solo, Pentium or the Core 2 Duo which we have listed here in a hierarchy of performance from Solo being the least powerful and Core 2 Duo being the most superior variant.

We have seen the netbook buying frenzy developing like giant snowball which took the world by storm. Every laptop manufacturer is actively trying to get a slice of this mighty pie which is due to grow even bigger according to industry experts.

Back in the labs Intel and AMD have been focusing to dominate the netbook marketplace by developing specialised processors to power-up these machines with low voltage processors which are light weight, run bigger screen sizes and deliver longer battery hours.

The popular models based on technologies introduced over a year ago Intel Atom and AMD NEO processors still seem to rule the market place driven by a huge demand and thriving sales.

With advancements in operating system upgrades with Windows 7 creating a lot of interest recently and other growing multimedia needs such as HD display now becoming a common display type, the need for developing efficient processing is now bullying laptop brands and technology developers like Intel to come up with a solution like the new CULV processor.

In essence the CULV processors are designed to bring more lightweight laptops with better screen and battery performance to benefit from.

Some of the netbooks we previously covered in our reviews that include the CULV processors are Toshiba T130 NotebookHP Pavilion DM1-1020EA Notebook and the Toshiba Satellite Flatiron T110-107
