Asus X5DC

Written by Lee

Asus X5DC laptop is a blend of innovation, function and technology; all comes wrapped up in a beautifully crafted black chassis which looks very stylish and practical. Asus X5DC is equally perfect for students, professionals and home users because of its creative design, large screen and affordability.

Screen and Display

If you closely look at the specifications, you would classify Asus X5DC as a business notebook. Working on spreadsheets or making PowerPoint presentations seems easy on the 15.6-inch widescreen display. Every Asus model offers variety of things which satisfy a wide-range of your work related and entertainment needs. On Asus X5DC, you can even watch your favourite movies and play ordinary games as the 15.6-inch screen and 1366 x768 pixels deliver amazing visuals and vivid lifelike colours. However, if you need a much more powerful machine then you can consider reading more about Dell Inspiron 1545 or Advent Roma 3000 laptop.

Processor Performance

Asus X5DC comes loaded with the latest Windows 7 which is regarded as one of the most user-friendly and secure operating system available today. The synchronisation of Windows 7 and Intel Celeron processor handle multi-tasking with a stable pace and efficiency.Though, you shouldn’t expect Asus X5DC to execute memory-intensive games and applications but yes, it can process majority of usual tasks without any problem.

3GB RAM and Hard Disk

In order to speed up the processing sessions, Asus X5DC is loaded with a whopping 3GB RAM. When it comes to data storage, there is a 250GB hard disk which provides ample space for storing your important files and folders.

Connectivity and Camera

Enjoy smooth internet connectivity via built-in Wi-Fi technology which allows quick connectivity. You can also connect to other peripherals using any of the 2 USB ports available. The card reader option is also there to enhance data transfer/share with other devices. A webcam is provided for video conferencing and messaging.

Weight and Battery Life

Weight-wise, Asus X5DC is not as impressive as it inspires in other areas like large screen and massive memory. With an overall weight of 2.6kg and 2.5hours of battery life, Asus X5DC can be a reasonable travel companion. However, if you work outdoor and require a much better battery back up then check out Toshiba NB200-12N, Toshiba L130-13L and Samsung N110 Netbook; all these three provide an outstanding battery life with small screens but would surely give a “Wow” experience.

The Bottom Line

Asus X5DC is a reasonable mid-range laptop with a bargain price tag to deliver all your usual computing and entertainment needs. Despite being a budget laptop it still has some nice entertainment features, letting you enjoy a web cam, play videos on large screen and listen to music on the specialised Altec Lansing speakers.

the x5dc which uses a Celeron processor is far superior to the dual core processor

Sean: Not sure if that has happened, although i saw this story revealing Asus’s intention of buying some major US brands including DELL http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/03/29/how-to-build-your-own-23-billion-company/

Secondly a Dual Core processor is better than Celeron

Right a few comments here that I need to straighten out for you folks. Firstly it is an Asus so quality is poor at best and secondly Asus do not own Dell and that would not have made it any better as Dell are as bad if not worse (35% failure rate and that is fact). Now I see someone asked if it is core 2 well in a sense it is but it is a Celeron so very slow and should never have paired this with Windows 7 or Vista for that matter. I work in the industry so I have a lot of experience with these things, now Asus are known for a problem with board failures and generally it is due to heat and hairline cracks appearing in the boards, that and the capacitors tend to bust or leak. Another thing is if you want their customer service good luck with that. Honestly if you are thinking about it save a little more and go for a Toshiba, Acer or Samsung. Sony are just OK but you are paying for the brand, most of their boards are actually Asus and or Foxconn and that is where they fail. Anywthing with a Seagate hard drive is also bound to have a failure on that part too.

The battery crashed or failed in second month, I lost all my work. It crashes continuously if you happen to be multi-tasking. It’s crap and I am not happy with this!

I have this Asus X5DC & its the worst laptop i have ever bought, i wouldnt even recommend it for £200, as the Samsung Netbook is better value for money but if you want a proper laptop i would suggest a Toshiba/Acer as they know what users want & provide realiable laptops. If you’ve got money to waste then buy a Sony, but remember you are paying for the name only not durability

  15. dan   |  Tuesday, 01 February 2011 at 9:29 pm

Apart from the fact that the battery only lasts about an hour when not charging i’ve had no major problems with it and i’ve had it for just over a year

I had my asus for nearly a year now. Never ever will get asus agaiN!!! 1st the keyboard buttons started to come off! Noticed they are only clipped. Now worst: The screen is going. The pixels started to show! if you take a look at the waranty book you can read about it. It looks like they know about this problem, but they asked me £170 to repair and was still under waranty! For me Asus is a joke!
