One Sector Which Is Still Un-Effected From Economic Downturn

Tagged with:

The soaring prices on everyday products and necessities seems like a never ending phenomena. We are witnessing the worst economic downturn in decades. Rising prices of fuel, basic necessities and pretty much every commodity has a new and increased price tag every other day. The stock markets have fallen flat, the rich and the famous are worried about their future so the situation is quite serious guys.

Apart from theses mad price increases we have noticed one sector “Technology” which still seems to remain steady for an average customer’s spending point of view.

Technology still continues to be cheaper

If you go to an electronic store you can still find better bargains on technology even better than what you were spending on them a few months earlier.

If you don’t believe me, go check something you bought recently. Let’s say if you bough a bargain laptop few months back go check it’s current price. You won’t find it cheap anymore. But very cheap.

BMW M5

I saw a motoring show on TV the other day and the host of the show called the recession “A Blessing” which provoked the idea of sharing this article on my blog. He featured one of the prestige models of BMW (M5) which would cost no less than 35K a year back now being sold second hand across the UK between 13 - 18K ( I wish I had spare 18K on the side ).

The battle for tech superiority is long over

It’s not really over over… but according to Richard Hsu, director of BenQ’s strategic business unit at BenQ the main consideration is not offering the advancements in technology but more importantly the ‘price’ involved in delivering a value for money bundle of technology.

IMB 80386

So what does it tell us. Reminds me of my childhood when my dad bought my first desktop back in 1991 which I believe was an IBM 80386 costing him a whopping 550 GBP. It operated on a super fast speed of 15MHz and came with a turbo button to boost the speed up to 25MHz, and the use of turbo button was reserved for rare occasions such as when I played my 3D games on it (Moto GP and Prince of Persia). Anyhow the bottom line of the story is the what you can still get after two decades of inflation is a desktop computer costing you 600 GBP a Core 2 duo 2 x 3.0 GHz, which I believe is a much more cheaper deal compared to the specs of my first PC :)

Some new advancements to look forward to

I truly believe in what professionals like Richard Hsu have to say about the pressing need for offering cheaper computer deals rather than delivering more advanced technology but in my opinion it would be nice to see some major improvements in some of the functionality areas that I still find very annoying despite advancements or even keeping the balance to create a value packages shouldn’t be such a barrier.

Better battery life

I would love to use my laptop all day long around my house without worrying about charging the battery. I wonder is it really so hard to do so.

Smaller Chargers Plz

You might find this funny but it’s a real concern of mine when my tiny Lenovo laptop fits nicely in a sleek posh bag I have bought for it whereas the charger lead causes a huge ugly bulge in the front pocket. I would really want to find out how hard would it be for the techies to reduce the size of charging cables.

Anyway I got carried away with a few retrospective flashbacks of my past and ended up making complaints which I truly believe will not solve any problems that we face today.

I hope you enjoyed the post :)
